Burn Injuries
Burn injuries are painful and may leave life-long scarring and emotionally. These injuries are classified into three degrees based on their severity, with first-degree burns affecting only the outermost layer of skin, second-degree burns penetrating to the second layer, and third-degree burns damaging all layers of skin and potentially reaching muscles, tendons, and bones.
Burns can result from various sources, including thermal burns (from fire, steam, or hot objects), chemical burns, and electrical burns. Each type requires specific treatment approaches, with more severe burns often necessitating specialized care at burn centers. Treatment objectives include pain reduction, infection prevention, removal of dead tissue, and restoration of function in affected areas. In severe cases, skin grafts or plastic surgery may be required.
Both economic and non-economic damages are available when suffering burn injuries. Economic damages cover medical bills, lost wages, and lost future income, while non-economic damages account for pain and suffering and emotional distress. In some cases, punitive damages may also be sought if the defendant’s actions were particularly egregious.
